Letter: Shame on the fake news at KUTV

(Steve Ruark | AP Photo) In this Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, file photo, Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc.'s headquarters stands in Hunt Valley, Md. Sinclair Broadcast Group, one of the nation's largest local TV station operators, announced Monday, May 8, 2017, that it will pay about $3.9 billion for Tribune Media, adding more than 40 stations including KTLA in Los Angeles, WPIX in New York and WGN in Chicago.

The most disturbing bit of news I have heard in years: Sinclair, parent company of KUTV, has instructed its news anchors to spread misinformation. That is a polite way of saying they told Mark Koelbel, Shauna Lake and the rest to lie. The anchors have been told they must say that much of the mainstream news media is fake. Really? Well, KUTV is.

The New York Times, The Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, The Salt Lake Tribune, Deseret News, Los Angeles Times, PBS News Hour, Frontline and scores of other mainstream news organization are fighting hard to tell the truth in an increasingly hostile environment.

There was a time when KUTV stood up for Utah. Not now. Shame on the fake news at KUTV. Shame on KUTV.
