Letter: To showcase the AR-15 on the front page is unbelievably insensitive

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Utah gun owner Brianna Seymour, 36, says she owns an AR-15 because it's easy to customize and "fun to shoot," while honing her skills through target practice. Seymour says she's never even shot an animal and welcomes background checks and a 21 and over policy.

The front page article (Tribune, Feb. 27) including a photo of Brianna Seymour posing with her AR-15 is a prime example of the insane culture of gun lovers in our world today. Her statement that “it’s fun to shoot” made me recoil at the very thought of someone who enjoys owning the type of weapon that has been used to kill hundreds of innocent people, including the 17 students and teachers who were gunned down at the high school in Parkland, Fla., on Feb. 14.

For The Tribune to print that photo and article less than two weeks after that horrific bloodbath illustrates the current ridiculous state of the media in our country.

To showcase the AR-15 on the front page of The Tribune is unbelievably insensitive to the families, friends and fellow students of those killed by this weapon of mass destruction.
