It is amusing to read the letters of those who implore us to write to our members of Congress and ask them to do something about the weekly mass murders. According to Paul Rolly, quoting Politico, gun right groups contributed $5.9 million to House Republicans and $106,000 to Democrats.
That kind of money buys a lot of immunity against seeing the blood and the carnage that the rest of us now see on a weekly basis. It dulls the conscience and decency.
Instead of writing to your Congress people, talk to your responsible friends and neighbors who have a rifle for hunting and a handgun for self-defense. Ask them to write to the NRA and tell them that you have no need for an AR-15 and neither does any other ordinary citizen, and if you don’t quit supporting these killing machines, we will quit our membership and the fees we pay that buy the members of Congress.
Go ahead and spend 90 percent of your effort and energy and find all the deranged individuals who live among us, who may be potential mass murderers. But spend 10 percent of your efforts and energy to realize that the connection between derangement and carnage is automatic guns.
