Letter: Noel’s outraged by ‘big government’ … except when he’s its greatest proponent

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Rep. Mike Noel, R-Kanab, proposes HB136 to muzzle city and local officials from speaking out on public-lands protections during the House Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environment Standing Committee at the Capitol on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018.

I commend Paul Rolly for his Feb. 13 column highlighting an alarming issue that Utah must address: the Mike Noel problem.

Like the weird uncle in the attic, Rep. Noel, R-Kanab, is out of control, emboldened by his fellow extremists in that right-wing idiotocracy known as the Utah Legislature and by a fake president and the antigovernment zealots he put in charge of destroying the environment and despoiling federal lands.

Like many radicals outraged by so-called “big government,” Noel is a hypocrite. He vilifies the feds for supposedly trampling states’ rights but doesn’t hesitate to run roughshod with his views over the rights of others.

Whether it’s his attempt to muzzle citizens and local Utah governments from voicing opinions about land conservation, or his proposal to take away local oversight of the Wasatch Front watershed, or his desire to take state ownership of U.S. public lands, Noel is just fine with big government — as long as he’s imposing it.

Enough!

Does anyone out there have room in your attic for Uncle Mike?
