Letter: Causes aside, global warming’s effects are scary — as is Pruitt, who can’t see that

(Pablo Martinez Monsivais | The Associated Press) In this Jan. 30, 2018, photo, Environmental Protection Agency administrator Scott Pruitt testifies before the Senate Environment Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington. Newly released emails show Pruitt personally monitored efforts last year to excise much of the information about climate change from the agency’s website, especially President Obama’s signature effort to reduce planet-warming carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants.

Scott Pruitt, the head of the EPA, questions whether a warming climate is such a bad thing. While the impact that human activity has on climate change can be debated, the effects of a warming climate on planet Earth cannot. At the very least, polar ice will melt, seas will rise, ocean currents will change, storm surges will get larger, coastal areas will be flooded and islands around the world will disappear.

By any measure, that is bad. It is absolutely frightening that this man is in charge of the agency that is tasked with protecting our environment.
