Letter: Here are the rules of sexual etiquette — for the workplace and beyond

“What is a fella to do if he likes a female he works with?” writes David T. Lancaster in his wonderful letter to The Salt Lake Tribune, Jan. 15. As a long time lady fan of the male gender, I’d like to give him a functional answer; something that may actually work without smashing his delicious male drive to connect with a chosen female. Here are the rules of sexual etiquette.

1. Like we must tell little ones in a supermarket, you may look but no touch! Let the lady offer the first touch. This is very important. 2. You may let your desires be known with respectful verbals. 3. If she says no, believe her and withdraw your approach immediately. 4. You may try once more after a bit but if she says no again, give her your phone number and tell her if she changes her mind to call you. Then leave her alone but stay open to friendship. Don’t pester.

So far, all the men I’ve asked about this have said, “Right on!” If other men don’t agree, they’re probably harassers. Hope this helps, David. Thanks for your whimsy; it’s so refreshing.
