Letter: Come senators, congressmen, show me your fortitude
Al Hartmann | The Salt Lake Tribune 11/6/2009
Mia Love was elected mayor of Saratoga Springs Tuesday November 3rd, becoming the first black woman to hold a mayor's office in Utah.
With the exception of Rep. Mia Love, who recently spoke, objecting to one of President Donald Trump’s racist comments, the silence of our U.S. Congress, including Sens. Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee and Reps. Rob Bishop, Chris Stewart and John Curtis, is telling.
What does it tell us? Many, maybe most U.S. senators and congressmen, including the majority of those from Utah, are morally and ethically bankrupt! They have no courage!
Cowardice is a word that can be used to describe their silence and, sadly, if it fits, it fits! We now have a president who, instead of working to heal the wounds of racism, works with everything he says and does to divide us racially. If I am wrong about their lack of intestinal fortitude, I would welcome they show me I am wrong, by publicly rebuking every instance of our president’s racist behavior.
