Letter: With PBS decision, KBYU turning 13th Article of Faith on its head

(Photo: Scott D. Pierce/The Salt Lake Tribune) BYU Broadcasting managing director, Michael Dunn explains the decision to make major changes at KBYU-FM and KBYU-Ch. 11.

How sad for the citizenry of Utah that KBYU seeks to lower its standards by eliminating classical music from its FM dial. According to reports from classical music supporters who met on Oct. 27 with Michael Dunn, managing director of BYU Broadcasting, he stated that officials at the highest level of the LDS Church had been notified of the proposed change.

Apparently, with the blessing of the First Presidency, KBYU’s management has flouted scripture, and turned Mormonism’s 13th Article of Faith on its head: “If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek to discontinue these things.”
