Why The Tribune is talking about solutions

Meet The Tribune’s Innovation Lab team working on solutions journalism.

(Eric Larson | FlashPoint SLC) The buildings and drill rig of the Utah FORGE project stand out from the desert floor near Milford, Utah. In the background are some of Beaver County's power-generating windmills.

What if we could take our toughest challenges — homelessness, climate change, drought, even loneliness — and chip away at them with meaningful and data-driven solutions?

The Salt Lake Tribune’s Innovation Lab team is planted in the world of insoluble problems — but is committed to addressing them thoughtfully and positively.

Our reporter Tim Fitzpatrick regularly calls on his decades of science background to tell stories like an important geothermal energy project coming to small-town Utah, and how it can change our energy future for the better.

Our reporter Sofia Jeremias shared a story about the progress of the Utah Bionic Leg, and how it will one day transform mobility for amputees. She reported how Utah was on the cutting edge with mental health teletherapy, even before COVID-19 dramatically increased levels of anxiety and depression.

The Inno Lab, as we call it, is fully supported by donors and we are grateful for its many supporters. Please help us continue to share this helpful work.
