(Rick Egan | Tribune file photo) Constructoon on Bangerter Highway on Nov. 16, 2017. UDOT plans to close Bangerter in Riverton overnight on Saturday to remove a pedestrian bridge.

Bangerter Highway will close overnight on Saturday in Riverton, and months of lane restrictions will also begin this weekend on U.S. 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon.

The Utah Department of Transportation plans to close Bangerter Highway in both directions between 12600 South and 13400 South on Saturday from 11 p.m. to Sunday at 6 a.m. Drivers should follow signs for designated detours.

Crews will remove a pedestrian bridge over Bangerter as part of a project that is building freeway-like interchanges at 12600 South, 10400 South and 6400 South.

In Spanish Fork Canyon, U.S. 6 will be reduced to a one-lane road with flaggers controlling traffic beginning Sunday at 9 a.m. at various locations from the mouth of the canyon to the junction with U.S. 89 near Thistle.

Those restrictions will be in place Sunday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the fall.

Crews are repaving a 12-mile section of the highway and replacing signs, improving drainage and repairing road shoulders.

Construction schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change. Updated information about traffic restrictions is available at udottraffic.utah.gov, or on the UDOT traffic app for smartphones.
