Just in time for one of the busiest travel weeks of the season, Salt Lake City International Airport has two new or updated smartphone apps to help travelers.

The updated “SLC International” app now includes features with current security line waiting times, flight schedules and airport news. The new “SLC Airport Shuttle Tracker” app shows the location of the airport’s economy parking lot shuttles with expected pickup and arrival times.

The airport said it will it will also offer extra help during the busy Christmas travel period, including ambassadors to answer questions and help passengers navigate the airport.

On Christmas Eve, local musicians are scheduled to perform throughout the day, and Santa Claus will spread cheer in locations both before and after security check points.

The airport said in a news release that while the entire holiday period is busy, it expects the biggest crowds this Saturday and again on Dec. 26.

The airport offers several reminders to help travelers, including:

• Arrive at the airport two hours early for domestic flights, and three hours early for international flights, to allow time to park, check bags and go through security.

• Before leaving home, check the airline’s website to ensure the flight is on time.

• Before leaving home, passengers are encouraged to print boarding passes or download them to a mobile phone to bypass ticket counters.

• Remember the Transportation Security Administration’s 3-1-1 rule for liquids in carry-on luggage: they must not exceed 3.4 ounces, must fit in one clear quart-size bag, and only one bag is allowed per traveler.

• When picking up passengers, please wait at the Park and Wait lot until they are ready to be picked up curbside.
