Southbound I-15 in Roy to close overnight on Friday and Saturday

(Al Hartmann | Tribune file photo) Southbound Interstate 15 in Roy is scheduled to close overnight on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25 and 26.

Southbound Interstate 15 in Roy is scheduled to close on Friday and Saturday nights to allow work on water pipelines beneath it.

It is scheduled to close between Riverdale Road and 5600 South from 10 p.m. on Friday until 8 a.m on Saturday, and again from 10 p.m. on Saturday until 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Southbound traffic will be detoured off of I-15 at Interstate 84. The detour will follow I-84 to Riverdale Road, then go to 1900 West, and follow it to 5600 South where cars may re-enter the freeway.

The Utah Department of Transportation advises motorists to plan for heavier-than-normal delays, or avoid the area entirely, if possible.

It urges semitrucks and other large vehicles to consider using U.S. 89 in east Davis County as an alternate route to bypass the construction.

In addition to this week’s closure, northbound I-15 lanes are scheduled to be closed a week later on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 to complete work on the other side of the freeway.

Schedules are dependent on the weather and are subject to change. Updated information about plans and current traffic is available online at udottraffic.utah.gov or by downloading the free UDOT traffic app for smartphones.
