Fare is free Saturday on UTA’s S-Line streetcars

(Rick Egan | Tribune file photo) The S-Line Sugar House Streetcar makes it's way down the new double-track rail line on April 5, 2019.

To help with a local celebration, fares are free Saturday on the S-Line streetcar.

The Utah Transit Authority said it is offering the freebie to help people enjoy the Sugar House Backyard Bash.

It notes that parking is at a premium in the Sugar House area and limited spaces are available at Fairmont Park, where the activity is scheduled. The agency is encouraging people to leave their cars home and use the streetcar to travel to the bash.

However, the free fare is only for travel on the S-Line. People who transfer to or from TRAX or a bus will be required to purchase tickets or use passes.
