The Sugar House streetcar, or S-Line, will close on Sunday plus next weekend — Jan. 12 and 13 — for construction that is adding a double track between 300 and 500 East.

The Utah Transit Authority said the work requires the overhead power lines for the streetcars to be powered down on those dates.

During the closure, UTA is asking passengers to use bus Route 21, which operates nearby on 2100 South. UTA is adding extra shuttle buses on the part of Route 21 that parallels the S-Line to increase frequency during the streetcar closure.

The new double tracking will allow the S Line to operate more frequency — every 15 minutes — by allowing streetcars more ability to pass each other.
