A voter initiative seeking to again make the caucus-convention system the only path for candidates to reach the primary ballot has scheduled seven public hearings statewide for Monday .
That is required before Keep My Voice may be able to start collecting the 113,000 signatures needed to put its Freedom of Association Initiative on the ballot later this year.
It backers hope to undo a new election law, called SB54, that allows candidates to qualify for the ballot either through the caucus-convention system, by collecting signatures, or both. The rival Count My Vote initiative is already collecting signatures to cement SB54 into law, but reduce the number of signatures required.
Public notices say the group has six hearings scheduled Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in several locations.
They include the Draper Library, 1136 E. Pioneer; the Logan Library, 225 N. Main; the Highland City Hall, 5400 W. Civic Center Drive; the Juab School District Office, 346 E. 600 North, Nephi; JB’s Restaurant, 111 N. 800 West, Price; and the Cedar City Library, 303 N. 100 East, Cedar City.
The group also has an earlier hearing scheduled Monday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Uintah County Library, 204 E. 100 North, Vernal.
