Zion National Park institutes mandatory shuttle service

(Steve Griffin | Tribune file photo) A shuttle bus leaves the Zion Canyon Village just outside Zion National Park near Springdale, Monday, Sept. 30, 2013.

St. George • Zion National Park is instituting mandatory shuttle service though Dec. 31.

Park officials hope that having visitors to take the shuttle will help relieve parking and traffic congestion, the Deseret News reported. Rangers are also warning visitors to prepare for winter conditions as the time that's considered the off season gets more popular with tourists.

The famous scenic drive inside the park will be closed to private vehicles. This is the second year that the park has instituted the mandatory shuttle service. It comes every 10 minutes during peak times.

Shuttle service will also be provided in the nearby town of Springdale every 15 minutes to help visitors make connections.
