A court appearance for a 72-year-old Utah man charged in what prosecutors call a $1.5 million Ponzi scheme has been delayed so he can recover from surgery after a heart attack.
The Standard-Examiner reports that Robert Glen Mouritsen is a former stake president in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who is accused of cheating fellow church members over a 12-year period.
Mouritsen had been scheduled to appear in federal court Tuesday to respond to allegations that he'd violated his pretrial release by contacting a 91-year-old alleged victim.
Mouritsen is charged with felony wire fraud and money laundering. The Kaysville businessman is accused of duping people into putting their money into a phony international investment program.
His defense attorney Robert Hunt did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment.
