Man arrested after shooting at Ogden mall

Ogden • Authorities say a suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting at a mall in Ogden.

Ogden police say 21-year-old Octavio Estrada Mendez is jailed without bond on multiple charges after the incident Saturday night near Newgate Mall.

They say a man in his 20s was wounded and taken to a hospital but is expected to make a full recovery.

The name of the victim and a possible motive for the shooting haven't been released.

Police tell the Standard-Examiner newspaper that Mendez fled the scene in a car after the shooting.

They say he was later located and arrested and booked into the Weber County jail.

It was unclear Sunday if Mendez has a lawyer yet.
