A 39-year-old Lehi man has pleaded guilty to 14 felonies in connection with surreptitiously taking video or photos of young boys urinating in public restrooms.
Jeffrey Aaron Young, 39, pleaded guilty last month in 4th District Court to 12 counts of voyeurism of a child with an instrumentality, and one count each of attempted sexual exploitation and obstruction of justice.
All the counts are third-degree felonies punishable by up to five years in prison. But prosecutors have agreed to request concurrent sentencing in exchange for Young's pleas.
Sentencing is set for April 28 before Judge James Taylor.
In court documents, Young admitted recording images of at least a dozen boys under the age of 14 while they were using restroom facilities, including at an LDS church and the Legacy Center recreation center in Lehi.
Images taken as early as 2012 were found on an electronic storage device in Young's home, court documents state.
Young also admitted destroying his cell phone with a wrench, putting the pieces in a plastic bag and filling the bag with water before tossing it in a trash bin, to which he later led police.
Lehi police began investigating voyeurism reports in November, when a young boy reported seeing a camera placed under the restroom stall at an LDS church at 3200 N. 600 East.
Then in December, members of the church gave matching descriptions of a man behaving oddly in the restroom, police have said. He was seen leaving the restroom as a group of boys was entering, and then immediately following them back into the restroom. Later he was seen sitting on a toilet in a restroom stall with his pants up, police have said.
Members of the church recognized the man as Young, a member of a neighboring LDS congregation, police have said.
Young was arrested on Jan. 13.
