No state outdoes Utah in the number of small- and medium-sized businesses that sell their products on Amazon.

Not California. Not New York.

Those giant commercial states were runners-up to Utah on Monday when Amazon released the list of its Top 10 “Most Entrepreneurial States.” The ranking was based on the number of smaller businesses per capita in each state that conduct online sales via Seattle-based Amazon.

Amazon vice president Nicholas Denissen said millions of smaller businesses selling on Amazon account for half of all items sold on the site.

“From incredible handmade artisans to small businesses inventing sustainable and eco-friendly products, there are thousands of Utah-based businesses demonstrating a tremendous entrepreneurial spirit,” he said, contending 300,000 new businesses nationwide started using the company’s resources last year.

“We’re working hard to keep them all growing,” he said.

Following Utah, California and New York in the ranking were Colorado, New Jersey, Washington, Florida, Delaware, Massachusetts and Oregon.
