Snow in Salt Lake City? It’s possible this week, forecasters say.

Cold fronts could bring snowfall to the Wasatch Mountains and a dusting to the Salt Lake Valley.

It may feel like spring lately in the Salt Lake Valley, but there’s still a chance of snow on Friday.

That’s because a cold front early this week is bringing the valley’s unseasonably warm temperatures back down to average for this time of year — around 50 degrees, said National Weather Service meteorologist Brittany Whitlam, with the Salt Lake City office.

In the mountains, the cold front could bring about 6 to eight inches of snow.

The valley will likely see rain into Thursday, with another cold front rolling in that evening, Whitlam said.

Those chillier temperatures are expected bring “a pretty good system for the mountains,” she said, plus a 20% chance of snow in Salt Lake City.

“Accumulations will probably be minimal, given just how warm it is and the sun angle,” Whitlam said. “But at least we do have a little bit of chance to see some winter kind of lingering around here with that system.”

Meteorologists are less certain about weather patterns past the end of the week, Whitlam said.

“Looking ahead, past that, there’s a bit of — actually — a lot of uncertainty in the forecast beyond then,” she said.
