A new Millcreek coffee shop is brewing — and it offers massive cinnamon rolls

Becca Isbell, daughter of Brickyard Bar owner Jeff Isbell, opened Brickyard Coffee next door to the popular Millcreek bar.

New brews are now available in Millcreek — and they have more in common with the bar next door than patrons would think.

Brickyard Coffee opened its doors Aug. 29 at 3000 S. Highland Drive in the same building as Brickyard Bar. The coffee shop is owned by Becca Isbell, daughter of bar owner Jeff Isbell, and serves up everything from chai lattes to macchiatos for those seeking an early-morning sip, starting at 6 a.m. every day.

“It was a big dream of [my dad’s] to always have a sports bar, and it’s always been a dream of mine to have a coffee shop,” Isbell said. “And so with this place open — it became available right next to the bar — it seemed just like the perfect situation, and we’ve been kind of building it together.”

Becca Isbell has always been part of her family’s businesses, whether it was as a receptionist at her dad’s old print shop or by designing the menus at Brickyard Bar.

She’s also always loved coffee. Isbell even moved to Portland after college because of its coffee reputation, she said.

The atmosphere at Brickyard Coffee is inspired by the simplicity of local drips in Portland and Seattle.

“I was born in Millcreek, so it’s just kind of amazing to get to bring this community space to somewhere that’s so close to my heart and to where I’m from,” Isbell said. “... It’s almost surreal, because it’s been in my head for so long. It’s like, ‘Oh, wow, it’s real. I can touch it!’”

The menu at Brickyard Coffee was inspired by the favorite brews and bites of those who work there. Matcha lattes, for example, are a favorite of one of the coffee house’s managers. The cafe also features a variety of pastries baked fresh and delivered each day by Lone Pine Bakery in Sandy — including sweet, buttery cinnamon rolls nearly the size of dinner plates.

Additions are on the way at the shop, including more greenery and local art for patrons to enjoy inside, along with an upgraded kids menu with flavored hot chocolates. And for pumpkin spice lovers, fall specials are on the way as well.

“We kind of mostly just went off of what we think people would like, but more than anything else, what we like,” Isbell said. “And we figured that if we create a space that the baristas and myself, if we like to be there, and we like the menu and like the food, then people are also going to resonate with that.”
