A suspect is in custody after a shelter-in-place order was issued for an area of St. George on Tuesday afternoon due to what police called an “active threat” of a man firing a weapon while barricaded inside a home.
The St. George Police Department said residents in the area of 3000 East Seegmiller Drive were to remain in their homes and shelter in place, and asked everyone else to avoid the location.
According to Police Chief Kyle Whithead, the unidentified man barricaded himself inside the home and was firing at officers, leading the officers to return fire.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., the home began burning, sending black smoke into the neighborhood. Shortly afterward, the man was taken into custody.
