A Friday afternoon grass fire on Salt Lake City’s west side created enough smoke to cause delays on Interstate 215, according to Salt Lake City Police Department.

The flames were near Indiana Avenue and I-215 and had spread to dry grass as of about 4 p.m., according to the Salt Lake City Fire Department. On scene, parked trucks burned.

Police said the blaze was pushing smoke across the interstate, and asked drivers to “be aware of the fire operations in the area and to take a detour” as crews made progress controlling the flames.

As of 4:41 p.m., fire officials said crews had contained both the truck and grass fires and firefighters were being released from the scene.
