Two Utah newspapers soon will welcome new reporters as part of Report for America‘s national initiative aimed at enhancing local, independent journalism.
They are among 107 reporters the nonprofit program is sending to news outlets in 34 states and Puerto Rico.
Dylan Eubank will cover faith in Utah County for The Salt Lake Tribune, and Lizzie Ramirez will cover tourism and government for The Times-Independent in Moab.
Both will begin their new jobs in early July.
(The Times-Independent is owned by The Tribune. Both news organizations are nonprofits.)
Eubank is a 2025 graduate of Brigham Young University, where he worked as editor-in-chief of The Daily Universe, the Provo school’s student newspaper. He spent time living in Europe, where he learned and studied Russian and Lithuanian, and said he is eager to highlight global perspectives, multiple faiths and underrepresented communities.
Ramirez earned a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2024. She is currently an intern at The Nevada Independent, a nonprofit digital news outlet. During last fall’s election, she was a student election correspondent for Teen Vogue and collected election data as a freelancer for The New York Times.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Lizzie and Dylan to The Times-Independent and The Tribune,” said Lauren Gustus, The Tribune’s executive editor. “With support from Report for America, we are doubling our reporting efforts in Moab and welcoming a reporter based in Utah County for the first time in nearly two decades.”
Of the incoming reporters, chosen from more than 1,300 applicants, Report for America says more than a third will focus on communities of color or immigrant communities or both, and almost a quarter will cover rural communities. Half the new reporters identify as people of color, and more than 60% are women.
With this year’s group of incoming journalists, Report for America said its active corps will reach 187.
