Ogden • A large fire erupted Saturday afternoon in a building under construction in Ogden.

FOX 13 News began receiving tips about the blaze shortly before 5 p.m. Ogden officials said it occurred on 22nd Street between Lincoln Avenue and Grant Avenue at a five-story apartment complex that was being built. The scene was near DaVinci Academy of Science and the Arts, a K-12 charter school.

Massive plumes of black smoke, visible from miles away, poured out of the structure.

On Saturday evening, Ogden posted on X, formerly Twitter, that the blaze “has been contained to the immediate area,” and crews were assessing the damage in that block.

Ogden Deputy Fire Chief Mike Slater said in a news conference later Saturday evening that the power company had to shut off a “high-tension” line that was on fire and posing a danger to firefighters. As of 8 p.m., Rocky Mountain Power’s website said there were 2,763 customers without power.
