A 9-year-old is in police custody after authorities say the child shot and killed a 32-year-old family member.
Tooele officers were first called to a home Friday shortly before 7:30 p.m., near 380 West and Millcreek Way, where a man was reported to be unconscious and bleeding from the head, police said.
The man, who was not immediately identified, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.
The child who police took into custody is related to the man who was fatally shot, police said, though police did not specify the nature of their relationship.
Authorities released few other details, including the child’s name or gender, the circumstances that led up to the fatal shooting, or how investigators suspect the child was able to access a firearm.
The shooting remains under investigation.
