‘Behind the Headlines’: More LDS Church missions; a homeless man’s cancer fight; and future drone takeoffs

Salt Lake Tribune journalists join radio show to discuss the week’s top stories.

Amid “strong growth” in missionaries and converts, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints plans a huge jump in its number of missions. A Salt Lake City man who slept in a park while fighting cancer says that he was unsheltered “because of circumstance.” And Utah’s empty parking lots could one day see future drone and air taxi takeoffs.

Salt Lake Tribune reporters Tamarra Kemsley, Paighten Harkins and Tim Fitzpatrick, along with news columnist Robert Gehrke, join Utah Public Radio’s Tom Williams to talk about the week’s top stories.

Every Friday at 9 a.m., stream “Behind the Headlines” at kcpw.org, or tune in to KCPW 88.3 FM or Utah Public Radio at www.upr.org for the broadcast. Join the live conversation this week by email to upraccess@gmail.com or X, formerly Twitter, @upraccess.
