Firefighters extinguish blaze at Garage on Beck

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but Beck Street will remain closed to southbound traffic as crews investigate.

(Salt Lake City Police) Fire crews work to battle a blaze at Garage on Beck on Oct. 21, 2023.

Salt Lake City fire crews responded to a fire at a local bar and music venue Garage on Beck Saturday morning.

The fire sparked at around 10 a.m. Saturday, Salt Lake City Fire division chief Dan Walker said. Salt Lake City Police officers blocked off North Beck Street going southbound, but the extent of the fire’s damage remains unknown at this point.

Upon arrival at the building, crews found heavy smoke and a “deep-seated” fire that had already spread to the attic and the main structure of the building, Walker said. Occupants were in the building at the time, but were able to get out safely, and there were no injuries to civilians or first-responders.

It took about 40 minutes and 30 firefighters to get the fire under control, Walker said. Crews are now wrapping up at the scene and working to ensure all of the fire’s hotspots are extinguished.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Walker said, and the building will most likely need some repairs. He estimated Beck Street going southbound would remained closed until around noon as crews work to mop-up the area.
