This story is part of The Salt Lake Tribune’s ongoing commitment to identify solutions to Utah’s biggest challenges through the work of the Innovation Lab.

The Utah Clean Air Partnership and Magnum Bikes announced that Salt Lake County residents can now apply for e-bike vouchers. There are only 1,000 vouchers available on a “first-come, first served basis,” so those eager to take advantage of the program should apply quickly.

Similar rebate programs tried out in cities like Denver have been immensely popular and vouchers go within minutes.

The program launched in Salt County today is tiered.

Standard vouchers provide up to $600 for certain Magnum commuter e-bikes and up to $1,200 for cargo e-bikes.

Income-qualified residents can save $800 on commuter e-bikes and $1,400 off cargo e-bikes.

“The electric motors in e-bikes generate zero emissions, which improves air quality while also offering an easier ride compared to traditional bikes,” Jesse Lapin, Magnum Bikes Chief Operating Officer said in a statement released today.

The application requires proof that you live in Salt Lake County and proof of income for those seeking the income-qualified vouchers.
