Wildfire that threatened homes in southern Utah is stopped — for now

The Dixie Springs Fire is burning between St. George and Hurricane

(Utah Department of Transportation) The Dixie Springs Fire is burning between St. George and Hurricane.

Forward progression has been stopped on a 100-acre fire in southern Utah, but it still threatens about 50 homes.

According to Utah Fire Info, the Dixie Springs Fire — burning between St. George and Hurricane, just north of Sand Hollow State Park — was reported at about 6 p.m. on Monday. High winds blew the blaze through grass and brush in the area. Multiple fire agencies and two tanker planes fought the fire, which threatened homes in the area, although no evacuations were ordered.

According to authorities, the fire was human caused.

The fire continued to burn on Tuesday morning, although its forward progress was stopped. Fire officials warned that a change in the winds could once again send the flames toward homes in the area.
