Tracy Smith was “one of a kind,” according to his co-workers.

(KTVX Channel 4) Veteran photojournalist Tracy Smith died of injuries he suffered while on assignment.

A longtime photojournalist at KTVX-Channel 4 died Monday, 11 days after he was hit by a pickup truck while on assignment.

Tracy Smith, 61, was working at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon on April 6 when, according to police, he was struck at the intersection of State Route 209 and State Route 210, suffering severe head injuries.

According to KTVX, Smith “had an extremely positive influence in our newsroom, always lifting up those around him and giving out accolades to all his co-workers. He was truly one of a kind, with a sweet spirit and infectious personality. He was one of the hardest workers in the industry and truly loved what he did.”

Smith was employed at KUTV-Channel from 1986-2003, working in editing, production and creative services. In 2011, he joined KTVX, working as a promotions producer, as a member of the digital team, and then as a photojournalist.

He is survived by his wife, Shauna, and two daughters. Funeral arrangements are pending.
