The popular survey, now in its 10th year, lets employees rate and recognize their employers.

Utah’s robust economy is moving many workers off the sidelines and into the labor market.

New numbers for January from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show the Beehive State grew more rapidly in 2022 than originally projected despite record low unemployment rates, which have been hovering around 2%.

The explanation, according state officials: As the coronavirus pandemic continues to recede, more people appear to be feeling confident about seeking new employment. Nine of Utah’s 10 major private-sector industry groups saw gains in January compared to the same month the year before, for an overall increase of about 40,600 jobs.

But not all Utah employers are the same. In coping with all the uncertainty of the past three years — fear, lockdowns, working from home, labor shortages, supply chain issues, rising costs — many have adapted for the better in keeping their employees feeling listened to, engaged and appreciated.

For 10th consecutive year, The Salt Lake Tribune is soliciting nominations for its annual Top Workplaces awards.

If you want to nominate one, go to http://www.sltrib.com/nominate or call 801-803-6841.

Any Utah workplace with 35 employees or more can participate, whether private, public, a nonprofit or a government agency.

The nomination deadline is April 21, with no fee for participating.

Those nominated will be evaluated by their workers from March through June with a short 24-question survey, conducted by Philadelphia-based Energage, a culture technology firm specializing in employee engagement and research on ways to improve the workplace.

The polling has employees review statements like “My job makes me feel like I am part of something special” or “This company operates by strong values” — and respondents then rank them on a scale from “strongly agree” to “strongly disagree.”

Participants can also highlight attributes of their employers they especially like or value for special awards categories. Some employers drew special awards for attributes such as values, leadership, direction, communication, meaningfulness and benefits. Past surveys have also included awards for top bosses at small, medium and large companies.

Employers, employees and those outside a company or organization can make nominations. The Tribune will announce winners this fall in special online and print publications.

Of the 2,426 organizations Energage invited to participate last year, 155 employers made the list of winners. Surveys were sent to more than 90,000 employees in Utah, and 35,664 responded.

Leading the 2022 winners among large businesses were health care industry vendor Health Catalyst; O.C. Tanner, which specializes in employee appreciation services; and CHG Healthcare, a health care staffing firm. Logan-based electronics maker Juniper Systems topped the list of midsize employers and Utah Foster Care was the Top Workplace among small companies.

Energage surveyed workplaces on behalf of media outlets in 61 markets and reached more than 2 million workers at about 8,000 companies and organizations in 2022.
