Police ask for help to find 14-year-old suspect in fatal Rose Park shooting

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Police are searching for a 14-year-old boy after authorities say he shot and killed a 17-year-old boy in Salt Lake City on Saturday.

At around 8:30 p.m., Salt Lake City police responded to reports of a shooting near 1600 West Ivy Circle, in Rose Park. Once they arrived, they found the 17-year-old with a gunshot wound. The boy was taken to a hospital, where he later died. His name has not been released.

Police believe that this is an “isolated incident” between the 14-year-old and the victim.

Officers searched nearby neighborhoods for the 14-year-old but couldn’t find him, and they are now asking the public for help. The boy has blond hair and blue eyes and should be considered armed and dangerous, SLCPD tweeted.

According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, this is the third homicide for Salt Lake City in 2023 so far.

Police also responded to a shooting in Poplar Grove on Saturday night, near 1400 W. Pacific Ave., where a man was found with a gunshot wound to the leg that was not life-threatening.

Authorities do not believe the two shootings are connected.
