Woman dies in Tooele house fire

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the blaze.

A woman died after a house fire sparked in Tooele early Tuesday, and officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze.

Tooele police received a call reporting flames and heavy smoke pouring from the residence near 425 West and 500 South at about 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

Arriving officers were told that an elderly woman was still inside the home, but the officers who tried to go inside were forced out by excessive heat, officials said.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and locate the woman inside. They brought her to a safe area, but despite lifesaving efforts, the woman died.

Police said the woman lived at the home and was the only person inside at the time of the fire. Her name has not yet been released.

Authorities continue to investigate.
