New Utah wildfire sparks along I-15; one lane briefly closed near Juab-Utah county line

The blaze is under investigation but suspected to be human-caused.

(Utah Wildfire Info) Firefighters work the Precision Fire along Interstate 15 south of Santaquin on Saturday, July 16, 2022. Officials estimate the blaze has burned over 35 acres.

A new wildfire briefly shut down a lane of Interstate 15 between Juab and Utah counties Saturday evening.

The Precision Fire was discovered at about 5:25 p.m. Saturday, burning about one-tenth of an acre along the interstate south of Santaquin. By 9 p.m., it had grown to 35 acres, according to Utah Fire Info.

Officials closed the right lane of I-15 northbound near mile marker 241 — along the line separating Utah County and Juab County — for about two hours Saturday as crews worked to extinguish the flames.

Multiple local, state and federal resources worked late Saturday to secure containment lines, officials said.

The fire is suspected to have been human-caused but remains under investigation.
