A small neighborhood was evacuated in Wayne County Friday night due to a wildfire.
The Carcass Creek fire ignited due to human causes Friday evening. About 15-20 homes along Miner Mountain Road were evacuated for a few hours as the blaze gained ground in the area, said Kayli Yardley with the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands.
The fire was “very active” until about 2 a.m. Saturday, but no structures were damaged and no one was injured. New crews are attempting to contain the fire amid a wind event forecast for Saturday afternoon.
Although evacuations have been lifted, Yardley urges residents to be ready to leave if needed. About nine acres have been burned so far, and the proximity to homes makes fighting the blaze more risky.
“Our fuel moistures are very, very low, so that means that things are gonna burn a lot easier,” Yardley said. “We’re sitting in a tinderbox right now. Just please be careful, be responsible, if you’re gonna have anything to do with fire.”
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
