A 14-year-old boy riding a dirt bike struck and killed a pedestrian in Eagle Mountain Friday night.

Authorities said the crash took place at the intersection of Porters Crossing Parkway and North Evans Ranch Drive at about 4:55 p.m. The boy allegedly ran through a stop sign before he hit a 19-year-old man, who was later identified by the Utah County Sheriff’s office as Caelan Lewis of Eagle Mountain.

Police said Lewis died from his injuries. The driver was hospitalized in serious condition but is expected to survive.

Sgt. Spencer Cannon of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said the motorcycle flew 200 feet or more after the impact, and the victim was thrown 50-60 feet from the crosswalk. The dirt bike was not street legal and police believe speed was a factor in the crash, he said.

The crash is under investigation.
