Spring — or, at least, spring-like weather — is coming to Utah, but you’ll have to wait until next week for it to get here. In the meantime, expect a bit more snow and frigid temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.
(The first day of spring is March 21.)
In the Salt Lake City area, there’s a 40% chance of snow on Thursday after 11 p.m., continuing into Friday morning, but it will only amount to an inch or less. Skies are expected to begin clearing by late Friday morning.
The big weather news is that the much-colder-than-usual temperatures — close to 20 degrees below normal — will continue for a couple of days. Normal highs in Salt Lake City are 48-50 in late February, but the forecast is for 31 on Thursday, with an overnight low of 18; 31/11 on Friday, and 36/17 on Saturday.
That’ll be warm compared to Logan — highs in the mid-20s to about 30 through Saturday, and overnight lows of 10, 4 and 9. Cedar City won’t see above-freezing temperatures until Saturday, when it’ll hit 36, and overnight lows of 8-10 are in the forecast.
There’s no snow in the forecast for Nephi, where weather-related accidents shut down Interstate 15 on Wednesday, but highs will be just 21 on Thursday, 23 on Friday and 27 on Friday.
In Salt Lake City, it’ll be closer to normal on Sunday (44/25) and Monday (47/31). And March will come in like a lamb – a high of 52 on Tuesday and a high of 58 on Wednesday, several degrees above normal.
Sunny skies have returned to southern Utah, and no more snow is expected. But it’s going to take a few days for temperatures to return to normal, which is 62-63 for the end of February. It’ll be 43 with an overnight low of 24 on Thursday, 47/22 on Friday, 50/25 on Saturday, 56/33 on Sunday, and 61/35 on Monday.
The forecast calls for highs of 67 on Monday, 4 degrees above normal; and 72 on Tuesday, 8 degrees above normal.
