That’s not hearts pounding, it’s artillery fire — part of Utah National Guard training exercises

Utah National Guard is firing its big guns on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Nothing says Valentine’s Day like … the sound of artillery fire?

If you live near Camp Williams in southern Salt Lake County or northern Utah County, that sound you hear isn’t your Valentine’s heart pounding, it’s the Utah National Guard firing its big guns. Training exercises will continue until 5:30 p.m.

Residents in Bluffdale, Draper, South Jordan, Herriman, Eagle Mountain and Saratoga Springs — and, possibly, surrounding areas — may hear the artillery firing at the base. The training exercises are scheduled to continue from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.

You’ll have to just listen, however. The training exercises are closed to the public.
