Cold temperatures and lake effect snow combined to create difficult driving conditions that resulted in dozens of traffic crashes up and down the Wasatch Front early Wednesday.
There’s no more snow in the forecast through the middle of next week, but the snow that fell Wednesday won’t be melting right away, according to the National Weather Service.
Salt Lake City is expected to remain below freezing on Thursday at 31 degrees, and temperatures will dip back down to about 14 on Thursday night. It’ll be about 37 on Friday, and 41 on Saturday and Sunday, with overnight lows of about 20.
The normal high for this time of year is 41; the normal low is 26.
It’s also colder than normal in southern Utah. In St. George, the forecast high is 47 on Thursday, and overnight lows are expected to be barely above 20.
The normal high for this time of year in St. George is 56-57; the normal low is 30-31. Temperatures will return to pretty much normal over the weekend — 53/28 on Friday, 58/28 on Saturday, and 59/28 on Sunday.
The forecast calls for sunny skies and no precipitation through the middle of next week in southern Utah.
