Police fatally shoot man in Weber County

It marked the first police shooting in Utah this year.

Authorities shot and killed a man Tuesday in Hooper, according to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were responding to a domestic violence call Tuesday afternoon in a subdivision near 3600 South and 5250 West when a man produced a weapon, Lt. Cortney Ryan with the Weber County Sheriff’s Office said.

Responding authorities opened fire on the man, who was killed, Ryan said. He did not say what type of weapon the man produced and did not clarify how many deputies opened fire.

No deputies were injured in the shooting, according to the sheriff’s office.

This is the first police shooting in 2022, according to a Tribune database that tracks more than a decade of police shootings. There were 31 police shootings in Utah last year, the highest number in at least the past 10 years.

Hooper is located west of Riverdale on the eastern shore of the Great Salt Lake.

The Weber County Attorney’s Office is investigating, Ryan said. No further details were immediately released.
