Head-on crash kills girl, 4, and man in Provo

Police are investigating what caused the collision.

(Provo Police Department) On Thursday in Provo, two trucks hit each other head on, killing a 75-year-old man and a 4-year-old girl.

A head-on crash in Provo killed two people Thursday afternoon — a 75-year-old man and a 4-year-old girl — according to the city’s police department.

The child’s 31-year-old mother was driving a truck when she veered into the wrong lane near 600 West on Lakeview Parkway, said Sgt. Nick Dupaix with the Provo Police Department. She crashed into another truck, driven by the 75-year-old man.

The man’s truck caught fire. Passersby, who had an extinguisher in their vehicle, pulled over and put out the flames. But the man died from his injuries.

The 31-year-old woman was hospitalized Thursday evening, Dupaix said. The child, her daughter, died.

The police department’s traffic team is investigating the crash.
