Man fatally shot outside wedding in Midvale

Unified Police are asking the public to come forward with any information regarding a suspect.

A wedding in Midvale turned deadly Saturday night when a guest was shot and killed outside the venue, according to a Sunday news release from Unified Police. The wedding was held at The Ganesh Center at 145 E. Ft. Union Blvd.

The person who was shot was identified as Midvale resident Oscar Avila, 28. Members of the wedding party as well as law enforcement performed life-saving efforts on Avila, the release states, but he was declared dead by Unified Fire Authority.

Unified Police stated in the release that the department doesn’t have any leads regarding a suspect, but Sgt. Melody Cutler said over the phone that those involved with the shooting were not part of the wedding. Police ask anyone who might have any information to call the department at 801-840-4000.
