A fire broke out in a building at 1528 W. North Temple at around 6 a.m. The site used to house Diamond Lil’s – an old steakhouse that closed a few years ago.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department requested everyone to avoid the area on North Temple from Redwood Road to 1200 W. as far as 700 North, due to reports of heavy smoke in the area.

There were no reports of injury and the cause of the fire remains unknown.

The building was scheduled to be demolished within a week, said Salt Lake City Fire Captain Anthony Burton. The city couldn’t comment immediately about the future plans of the land since it’s private property.

“It’s been a struggle with incidents near that area with other problematic fires,” said Burton, “It’s been on our radar as a potential hazard.”

“It seems like there’s a continual problem,” said Dillon Fontaine, a resident from the area. “Who knows how long the developers are going to take to demolish it, just like the building across the street. It’s been sitting there for like a year. I’m kind of worried the same thing could happen here.”
