Salt Lake City police arrest man in connection with fatal shooting in Sugar House

Abdourazak Mouhoumed, 18, was found shot inside a crashed car and died at the scene.

Salt Lake City police have identified a man who was found shot inside a car that had crashed into two houses Saturday morning. Officers have also arrested a 38-year-old man they say shot at the car “several times,” according to a Sunday news release from the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Police tried to revive Abdourazak Mouhoumed, 18, when they found him in the wrecked vehicle near 600 East and Wilmington Avenue in Sugar House, the release says, but he died at the scene.

The alleged shooter was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on charges related to Mouhoumed’s death.

Police believe Mouhoumed was among a group of guests who stole a bottle of alcohol from a party being held by the suspect at his home on Wilmington Avenue early Saturday. The group left the party in a small black car believed to be driven by Mouhoumed, police spokesperson Brent Weisberg said.

Police believe the suspect pulled out a gun and fired at the moving vehicle. The car crashed into two houses along 600 East, just south of the man’s house, Weisberg said. Neither homeowner said they heard the crash, and no one called 911 to report the collisions. The police spokesperson said the front of both houses had “significant damage.”

Police allege in their report that the suspect and possibly others used a flashlight to search for shell casings after shooting Mouhoumed.
