Utah reports six more deaths and 572 new cases of COVID-19

In the past week, there have been 20 deaths and more than 3,600 new cases.

The number of new cases of COVID-19 rose close to 600 on Wednesday, and there were four more coronavirus-related deaths.

According to the Utah Department of Health, there have been 20 deaths in the past seven days, and 3,611 new cases of COVID-19.

UDOH also reported almost 6,000 vaccinations in the past day. The number of Utahns fully vaccinated against the coronavirus stands at 1.44 million — 44.3% of the state’s total population. And 1.61 million Utahns have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Vaccine doses administered in past three days/total doses administered • 5,823 / 2,926,472.

Utahns fully vaccinated • 1,438,874.

Cases reported in past day • 572.

Deaths reported in past day • Four — a Carbon County man between the ages of 45-64, a Salt Lake County man 65-84, a Sanpete County woman 45-64, and a Weber County man 45-64.

Tests reported in past day • 5,823 people were tested for the first time. A total of 7,954 people were tested.

Hospitalizations reported in the past day • 241. That’s 10 more than on Tuesday. Of those currently hospitalized, 101 are in intensive care, nine more than on Tuesday.

Percentage of positive tests • Under the state’s original method, the rate is 9.8%. That’s lower than the seven-day average of 13.1%.

The state’s new method counts all test results, including repeated tests of the same individual. Wednesday’s rate was 7.2%, lower than the seven-day average of 8.8%

Totals to date • 421,257 cases; 2,406 deaths; 17,904 hospitalizations; 2,842,637 people tested.
