Utah reports 4 more deaths caused by COVID-19

Three of the deaths occurred prior to May 26 but were only recently confirmed to have been coronavirus-related.

The Utah Department of Health reported that a woman aged between 15 and 24 is one of four new deaths caused by COVID-19 on Saturday.

Vaccine doses administered in past day/total doses administered • 19,910/ 2,838,187.

Utahns fully vaccinated • 1,376,548.

Cases reported in past day • 351.

Deaths reported in past day • Four, although three of these deaths occurred prior to May 26 and were only recently confirmed to have been caused by COVID-19.

Salt Lake County reported two deaths: a woman between 65-84 who was at long-term care facility resident and a woman between 15-24. It is unknown if she was hospitalized at the time of death.

Cache County reported one death: a man older than 85 who was a long-term care facility resident. Utah County also reported one death: a man between 65-84 who was not hospitalized.

Tests reported in past day • 3,831 people were tested for the first time. A total of 6,807 people were tested.

Hospitalizations reported in the past day • 201. That’s two fewer than on Friday. Of those currently hospitalized, 62 are in intensive care, one fewer than on Friday.

Percentage of positive tests • Under the state’s original method, the rate is 9.1%. That’s higher than the seven-day average of 8.9%.

The state’s new method counts all test results, including repeated tests of the same individual. Saturday’s rate was 5.1%, lower than the seven-day average of 5.95%

Totals to date • 413,668 cases; 2,351 deaths; 17,418 hospitalizations; 2,782,297 people tested.
