Man arrested for allegedly setting 11 fires on Weber County trail

Firefighters contain the blazes, which spread slowly.

A man has been arrested after he allegedly set 11 fires on a Weber County trail.

According to a spokesman, the Weber County Fire District received a report on Thursday at 1:02 p.m. that a man was seen lighting fires on the trail between West Haven and Marriott/Slaterville. About 30 firefighters from the Weber County, Riverdale, Roy and Ogden responded to 11 blazes that had been ignited on the trail.

After the suspect was identified, the Weber County Sheriff’s Office arrested him and booked him into jail.

The 11 fires were contained by firefighters, who were aided by a lack of wind and green vegetation that slowed the spread of the flames, according to the spokesman. Crews monitored the sites throughout the night.
