The Salt Lake Tribune

A 9-year-old Utah girl driving to California — with her 4-year-old sister as a passenger — sideswiped a car before colliding with a semitruck in West Valley City on Wednesday morning.

No one was injured in the collisions.

The driver of the semitruck called police after witnessing the two cars collide near 2100 S. Frontage Rd. and 3200 West, believing the driver was impaired. He followed the car, which then collided with his truck, disabling both vehicles.

According to police, the truck driver was surprised to discover a 9-year-old girl behind the wheel of the car. The girls are believed to have driven from West Jordan to West Valley City, and were planning to drive to California for a vacation.

Both girls were wearing seatbelts, police said.
